Sept 19-20- Join the Zero Waste Humboldt Crew at the North Country Fair!

On Saturday and Sunday, September 19-20, come join Zero Waste Humboldt at the North Country Fair and help to reduce waste!

To sign up for a 3-hour shift with the Fair’s Zero Waste Crew, contact Nancy Stevens, Zero Waste Coordinator at  Shorter or longer shifts may be available, if preferred.

The North Country Fair board is the first local event board to adopt a zero waste policy and a commitment to continuously reduce the waste generated at the Fair.  Last year, the Fair banned the sales and distribution of single use plastic water bottles, and sold a limited number of refillable stainless steel cups as a pilot.  They will sell more refillable cups this year and Zero Waste Humboldt will add an improved sorting system for recyclables.  70 trained volunteers are needed to serve as monitors at the recycle-compost-landfill stations.  Many of our zero waste volunteers enjoy taking a shift with their families, friends, coworkers, and housemates.

The 50-minute zero waste training is offered at 2 different times prior to the festival: Sunday, Sept. 13 at 10:00 a.m. on the Arcata Plaza, or Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Arcata Library next to City Hall.
