Zero Waste Youth Leadership Projects

Zero Waste Humboldt Board Member, Alec Howard, has embarked on a Zero Waste journey with six local high school students from Arcata and McKinleyville. Students Jasmine Ortega, Sophie Roberts, Estelle Fuller, Cheyenne Bailey, Abigail Miller and Mya Alves are participating in our ZW Student Leadership Project. Students have begun identifying waste-related issues at their schools and formulating their own practical solutions. Their research and findings will be presented to peers and school administrators in the Spring of 2017. Thanks to a grant from Humboldt Area Foundation, the students will travel to the International Zero Waste Youth Convergence at the City College of San Francisco on March 19th.

Each student has developed their own project focused toward reducing waste on campus as well as educating their peers and administrators on the importance of waste prevention.
